History of Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home & Chapel
Originally known as H.S. Pierce Funeral Home, Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home was established in Brantford in 1860.
Wilfred A. Thorpe, with his two brothers, O.J. Thorpe and R.R. Thorpe, entered the funeral profession in Burke’s Falls, Ontario, in 1903. The Thorpe Brothers subsequently operated funeral firms in New Liskeard, Haileybury, Cobalt, Kirkland Lake, Rouyn and Hamilton. In 1917, the Thorpe brothers came to Brantford, purchasing the H.S. Pierce firm and renaming it Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home.
